The existing ventilator interface was old and difficult to navigate.
Research showed that many of the sophisticated features were unused because they were hidden deep within the user interface.
Primary user controls were "soft keys" on the products bezel.
The new touch screen interface combined with a new "timeline" navigation style, created a mental model for users where historic information ( e.g. alarm history, waveform history, are access by controls on the left, and future events ( e.g. scheduled spirometry testing ) are positioned on the right side of the controls.
Waveform review is simplified by repurposing traditional "video scrub" tools shown here.
Key patient parameters and alarms are visible from a distance.
